Panasonic has been working for years to expand and develop the Toughbook family of rugged notebooks.
Panasonic has introduced a new generation of rugged notebook-transformer Toughbook CF-20. The novelty features a strengthened security protocol, which is important for large corporations, government agencies, and defense structures working with confidential data.
- The protection of the Panasonic Toughbook CF-20meets IP65 and MIL-STD 810G standards.
- The device weighs 1.76 kg, which is significantly less than its predecessors. The tablet weighs 950 grams when the keyboard is disconnected, while the standard for industrial PCs of this type is 2 kg.
- Battery life has increased up to 17 hours.
Laptops
manufactured by Panasonic are little known to ordinary users. This is the
company's specialization in models with a high degree of protection against
external influences. Laptop computers of the branded Toughbook series are not
afraid of shocks and fall even when turned on, and they have a waterproof and
dustproof case.
Obviously,
the Panasonic Toughbook CF 20 design of a laptop is
the most convenient field use, because it can be held with one hand. At the
beginning of this year, Panasonic added the Toughbook CF-20 to its range,
combining the advantages of a tablet PC and a laptop.
The Panasonic
Toughbook CF 20 is based on the Intel Centrino platform and is equipped with a
1.06GHz dual-core Core Duo U2400 CPU with a reduced power supply. The
motherboard chipset - Intel 945GM - has an integrated graphics core. The RAM is
512 MB, the hard disk is 80 GB; the laptop is also equipped with an adapter for
SD memory cards.
In addition,
the Toughbook CF-20 has slots for PC Card Type II and ExpressCard / 54
expansion cards. There is a traditional serial (COM) port, which is often used
to connect to industrial equipment. There is no built-in optical drive - you
will have to purchase an external drive separately. This, of course, creates
certain difficulties for the user (not to mention additional expenses),
The
communication subsystem capabilities are of particular importance for the
"field" model - the laptop is equipped with a modem, 10/100-Mbps
Ethernet adapter, Bluetooth controller, and a tri-band Intel PRO / Wireless
3945ABG wireless module.
In
addition, additional adapters for connecting to EVDO and HSDPA networks and a
GPS receiver can be installed in the device.
As mentioned above, this laptop combines the advantages of a conventional laptop and tablet. Thanks to the hinge, the case cover can be unfolded and placed over the keyboard. The ten-inch screen (its resolution is 1024x768) has a touch-sensitive cover, and a stylus is fixed in the body. However, the touch screen also perfectly recognizes finger presses - this can be useful in the field. It is worth noting that the display image is not very bright, usually the case with the touch cover. There are large keys for changing the backlight's brightness on the front end of the case, calling up the on-screen keyboard, rotating the Windows desktop by 90, and on the back, there is a strap that securely fixes the machine when the user holds it with one hand.
